Kochi: Security oficers of the Italian flagged oil tanker 'Enrica Lexie' shoots down two Indian seamen to death mistaking them to be pirates.The unfortunate incident occured by 4.30 PM yesterday when the two fishermen who left Neendakara in Kollam of Kerala were executed by mistake.One person is reported to be a native of Tamil Nadu while the other is believed to be from Kerala.As per the request from fellow fishermen regarding the incident, coastguard conducted an airborne search to find the ship.The ship's crew confirmed the fire.The 58000 DWT oil tanker set off from Fujaira port in UAE 10 days back.The vessel which was commissioned in 2008 was never subjected to a piracy attack before.
                      The shootout took place almost 90 Kms away from Kochi.The officials have requested the ship to return to Kochi port in order to proceed with the inquiries.The Italian ambassador was requested to present an explanation for the accident.Mean while the ship's officials told that they shot down some pirates who were attempting to board the ship and who didn't obey their orders to retrace.The event became a huge controversy when the Italian tanker was alleged to have violated the International maritime protocol and unauthorizedly shot down two innocent fishermen.
